It’s frustrating to choose a Cover image in Google Business Profile (GBP) and the algorithm selects another image to use as the Cover image when you search for your business.
Now, there is a place in Google My Business to set your cover image, but there are cases where the algorithm chooses another image.
The Cover image, or Profile image is the image that appears when you search for your business, and your GMB profile appears in the right hand sidebar on desktop.
Google’s support forum states that you can select a preferred cover image, but ultimately, Google’s algorithms will select the image that appears. Usually this is the most viewed image, or the image they calculate will get the most engagement. This can cause your selected Cover image to not be the image selected as the featured Profile image in your GMB listings.
Fortunately, there is a method to correct this.
Steps for Changing Your Google My Business Profile Image
1. Log in to your Google Business Profile at business.google.com.
2. Go to the Website tab.
3. Change the Header photo on the Website to the desired Google Business Profile image.
4. Refresh the public-facing search result where your Google Business Profile is displayed. The new image should display.
Note: You do not need to publish the Google Site found under the Website tab in your Google Business Profile for these changes to take effect.
